System Requirements

Browser, hardware, and network requirements for running the GPU-accelerated KinoViz editor, plus performance tips for complex 2D, 3D, and high-resolution work.

Overview

KinoViz runs entirely in your web browser — no installation, no plugins, no downloads required. The editor is GPU-accelerated with real-time rendering, so performance depends on your hardware and browser configuration.

Supported Browsers

KinoViz requires a modern browser with WebGL 2 and hardware acceleration enabled. Supported browsers (latest 2 versions recommended):

BrowserNotes
Google ChromeRecommended. Best performance and compatibility.
Microsoft EdgeChromium-based — works identically to Chrome.
Mozilla FirefoxFully supported.
Apple SafariSupported. Requires Safari 16.4+ for WebGL 2.

Required Browser Settings

  • JavaScript — Required.
  • WebGL 2.0 — Required for the 3D system and canvas rendering.
  • Local storage — Required for editor state persistence.
  • Third-party cookies — Required for Google and GitHub OAuth sign-in.
  • Hardware acceleration — Strongly recommended. In Chrome: Settings → System → Use hardware acceleration.

Recommended Hardware

Desktop

ComponentMinimumRecommended
CPUDual-core 2.0 GHzQuad-core 3.0 GHz+
RAM4 GB8 GB or more
GPUAny WebGL2-capable GPUDedicated GPU (NVIDIA / AMD / Apple Silicon)
Display1280 × 7201920 × 1080 or higher

For 3D Work

  • A dedicated GPU is strongly recommended. Integrated graphics may struggle with complex 3D scenes.
  • 8 GB RAM minimum — GLB model data is held in memory.
  • Keep model polygon count under 200k per model for smooth real-time preview. Higher polycount models are supported but will reduce viewport FPS, especially on integrated graphics.
  • Use compressed textures (JPG or WebP) for material maps where quality allows.

For High-Resolution Export

High-resolution export (up to 1920px short edge, Full HD+; Pro and Studio plans) renders in your browser, so a faster GPU and more RAM shorten export time. Export quality is identical on any supported hardware — only speed differs.

Network Requirements

KinoViz requires an active internet connection for editing — all project data is cloud-stored. Export itself renders locally in your browser, but it still needs the connection to load assets and save.

FeatureRequires internet
Editor (canvas, animation)Yes
AI generationYes
Asset LibraryYes
Export renderingYes
Publish / share linksYes

KinoViz does not currently support offline editing.

Mobile Support

KinoViz is designed for desktop browsers. Mobile editing is not recommended.

DeviceStatus
iPad (landscape, large screen)Partial — editor is usable but not optimized
iPhone / Android phoneNot recommended — canvas too small, no keyboard shortcuts

The public viewer (for watching shared animations) works on mobile browsers.

Performance Tips

General

  1. Close unused browser tabs — each tab consumes RAM and GPU memory.
  2. Enable hardware acceleration in your browser settings.
  3. Use Chrome or Edge if experiencing performance issues on Firefox or Safari.

For Complex Projects

  1. Limit backdrop-blur elements — these are GPU-intensive. Keep to 2–3 maximum.
  2. Use static images instead of video for background elements when performance is critical.
  3. Turn off layer visibility for elements you are not currently working on.

For 3D Scenes

  1. Keep polygon count under 200k per model for smooth real-time preview.
  2. Use compressed textures — JPG instead of PNG for diffuse maps.
  3. Limit lights in a single scene (3–5 is a practical target).

Export Performance

Exports render locally in your browser, so your GPU and RAM directly affect export speed (quality is the same on any supported hardware). Factors that affect export time:

  • Animation duration
  • Number of complex effects (physics, backdrop blur, 3D)
  • Export resolution (1920px short edge / Full HD+ takes longer than 1080p)
  • Whether the tab stays in the foreground (browsers throttle background tabs)

Collaboration

Collaborative editing in KinoViz uses an async edit lock model — one editor at a time, with the ability to pass edit access to another team member. Real-time simultaneous editing is not supported. Collaboration features are available on the Studio plan only.
