Lottie Creator is LottieFiles' browser editor. It is built around the Lottie format: you animate vector layers and export Lottie or dotLottie, played at runtime by a player library in a web page, an iOS or Android app, React Native or Flutter. It sits inside the wider LottieFiles ecosystem of hosting, libraries and player tooling.

KinoViz is a browser animation studio that renders finished video. Vectors, text, images, video and 3D models share one canvas and one keyframe timeline, with physics and shader-based materials, and the output is an MP4 or WebM file.

Both animate in a tab. The decision is made by the format at the far end, not by the editor.

TL;DR

Choose Lottie Creator if the deliverable is a Lottie or dotLottie file. In-product animation that has to be small, scale to any density, respond to state, and be swapped without shipping a new build. No video tool competes with that, at any quality level.

Choose KinoViz if the deliverable is a rendered clip, or if the scene contains anything a vector runtime cannot draw — 3D models, physics, glass and metal materials, shader treatments, video layers.

What Lottie Creator does better

The format, obviously. A Lottie is usually kilobytes rather than megabytes, scales to any screen density without softening, and carries transparency by default. A video of the same loader is a fixed-size raster with a baked background. For anything inside an interface, this is not close.

Runtime control. A Lottie player can pause, seek, loop a segment, play a range on hover and swap animations without an app release. A rendered video plays. If your animation has to react to application state, only one of these two tools is in the conversation.

The ecosystem around the file. Hosting, a CDN, team libraries, player libraries for web, iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter, and a handoff flow developers already recognise. The format handoff usually needs that infrastructure anyway, and it comes attached.

It is the reference implementation. LottieFiles maintains the format and the players. If your engineering team has standardised on Lottie, authoring in the tool built by the people who maintain the runtime removes a class of compatibility surprises.

Where KinoViz goes further

Everything the format cannot carry. GLB and GLTF import with DRACO compression up to 50 MB per model on every plan including Free, on the same timeline as flat vectors, with camera keyframes from Creator upward — see the 3D system documentation. Rapier physics. Liquid glass, reeded and frosted glass, liquid metal, glow and bloom, ASCII and halftone treatments, 22 procedural gradient backgrounds and 42 text-effect presets. A Lottie player interpolates vector primitives; several of these are shader passes with nowhere to live in that model.

Video as a source, not just a destination. KinoViz places MP4, WebM, GIF and WebP files on the canvas as animatable layers, with playback keyframes and image filters. Lottie has no equivalent — embedding raster content is possible in some players but it defeats the reason to choose the format.

Scene-scale composition. Groups, reusable components, boolean operations, effector arrays, a pen tool, trim path, 40 easing curves and per-property keyframes, built for a thirty-second film rather than a four-second loop.

AI that drafts a whole scene. In Beta from the Creator plan, the assistant turns a text description into elements and keyframes that you then edit by hand. It spends a credit balance and shows the cost before you send. See AI generation.

Local rendering. Video is encoded in your browser, so there is no upload step and no render queue.

Export and delivery

Lottie Creator's job is Lottie and dotLottie, with video output offered alongside it. Because LottieFiles' pricing page blocks automated reads, we are not going to state which tier unlocks which export as though we had verified it — check the current plan comparison on lottiefiles.com before you decide.

KinoViz exports MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) and a single PNG frame on every plan, plus a .kino project file from Creator upward. There is no Lottie, no GIF, no animated SVG and no PNG sequence. Transparent output is the PNG frame only, since both codecs bake the canvas background into every frame. Resolution rises by plan: 540p at 24 fps with a watermark on Free, 1080p at 30 fps on Creator, up to 1920px on the short edge at 60 fps on Pro. Full matrix: export formats.

Pricing

LottieFiles publishes a free tier and per-user paid plans, but its pricing page could not be read reliably at the time of writing. Third-party review sites list an individual plan around $19.99 per user per month and a team plan around $24.99 per user per month on annual billing as of September 2026, with an enterprise tier above. KinoViz lists Free at $0 for 3 projects at 540p with a watermark, Creator at $8 per month for 50 projects at 1080p with a commercial licence and AI credits, Pro at $19 per month for 500 projects up to 1920px at 60 fps with premium materials and a seven-day free trial, and Studio at $79 per month for teams, currently Coming Soon. Who should pick which

Pick Lottie Creator if you are a product designer or front-end engineer whose animation ships inside software, if the file has to be small and scalable, if it must respond to state, or if your team already runs on LottieFiles for hosting and handoff.

Pick KinoViz if your animation ships as a video file, if the scene needs 3D or physics or shader materials, if you want video layers on the canvas, or if you are building a film rather than a loop.
